As most of you know, I have a sorted past with DMR and repeaters. And since becoming a BETA tester and developer on the BTech DA-7X2 and diving into NXDN, things are expanding. In the past year I have gotten to play with NXDN, and dug out the old P-25 ht, and kinda play on M17. I have spun up reflectors for the BYRG on NXDN (2 of them), P-25 and M17. The reason for 2 on NXDN is WHEN (not IF- this mode should take off like DMR did back in the day), takes off I will need one for testing, hence the 2nd one. Along with all this AllStar is back in the sandbox. We have 442.55 back on and just need to reset the router to have it on the net, I have a SHARI node here running on UHF, and will be hopefully building a UHF repeater for allstar and a digital linking system.
What IS ready to fly is the 927.5875 repeater is going to be back on Allstar, and that PC (not building on Pi’s any more- small form factor desktops with SSDs are the norm now), has a DVSwitch build on it. What that means is it can link into ALL digital modes and with the Allstar bridge the analog stuff can link on NXDN and P25 now. I am avoiding DMR for a bit, as Brandmesiter is frowning heavily on DVSwitch bridges, and I will not do Fusion, as there is a gentleman who has FLOODED KC with every available repeater pair on Fusion. He has 2-3 systems which have the same coverage foot print on the same reflector, or room, and it is possibly the dumbest thing I have seen in 48 years of ham radio. He single handedly has ruined repeaters and VHF/UHF operations in KC for a LOT of people and I have heard MANY MANY complaints.
442.55 will be the same in AllStar/DVSwitch linking. At this time the 900 system will be on NXDN and UHF will be on P25, and those links can be turned on and off, and also switched to have 900 on P25 if desired and NXDN on UHF. So there is versatility built in.
Now we get to the “what Chuck does when he gets bored”. I have built one pc with the following on it.
An Allstar build with 2 nodes on it (for testing scripts and such)
HBLink3 for a DMR server (which will link to the 31201 TG I have on TGIF Network)
URFD Universal Reflector for NXDN, P25, M17, YSF, and basically any mode we can think of.
And all these have individual dashboards for each build. Allstar has both Allmon3 and Supermon running.
So yea, it was fun getting all to play together. The dashboards were the biggest hurdle. once i moved URFD to it own folder on the pc, it all felt into place.
Now to get HBLink finished to TGIF, and then get my ZumSpot on all the modes to this box…. so yea more work is needed….
Now to rest for a bit…
